She is the meaning behind the Painting the Town Gold Logo and the spark that inspired Todd to begin Painting the Town Gold.
Pheonix Spangler was the first teen Todd met as he began his treatment for cancer. Diagnosed with Stage Four Rhabdomysarcoma at 12 years old Pheonix had already been fighting for one entire year by the time she and Todd met.
Todd and Pheonix Spangler, one of the inspirations for PTG and the motivation for our logo.
But one time meeting was all it took to realize that Pheonix was one of the people you meet that you will never forget. Her compassion and caring for others around her was obvious in everything she did, her incredible gift for love coming through to everyone she met.
Even though Pheonix was often confined to the hospital for weeks at a time, she lit up the world in a way that was so uniquely her.
Pheonix fought for two very incredibly long and hard years. She had to endure countless rounds of chemo, radiation, and hospitalizations as her body tried to recover and fight the monster that is pediatric cancer. But for Pheonix, the cure would never come. Pheonix and her family were eventually told that her cancer was no longer responding to treatment and that there were no other treatment options available for her.
Her fight ended on January 4, 2015. Heaven most defiantly gained one of its most beautiful angels. Painting the Town Gold is honored to display the logo that is in her honor.
In 2016, Pheonix Fighters began the Pheonix Spangler Foundation in her honor. You can read more about Pheonix and her foundation at http://www.pheonixsfighters.org/.
